From Makayla...to Tucker

Our darling niece, Makayla, found out it was Tucker's birthday and drew him a beautiful cake!  When my in-laws were in Chicago during the holidays, she gave it to them to give to Tucker.  Such a sweet gesture.

Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday and Happy New Year...a little late!

The past few weeks at work have been rather busy - requiring me to stay later than normal.  By the time I get home, I have little to no energy to go online, let alone blog.  I'm still loving my new job and I'm happy to report I have been there for more than three months - a record compared to my last two jobs :) Hey now, those jobs were after I was with another company for five+ years.  It's all about finding the right fit and I feel very fortunate.  I have been doing a rotation on the trading desk which means I don't get to leave my desk for many, if any breaks.  Thankfully everyone is very nice and has a great sense of humor.  Don't worry, it's not like "Wall Street" or "Boiler Room"!  Oh, let's not forget about all the free food too!  My first lunch on the desk consisted of warm turkey, warm beef, gravy, mashed potatoes, veggies, crab cakes, mac n cheese, salad, dessert, etc...

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!  Ours was busy with last minute shopping, wrapping, and baking.  What is it about the holidays that always causes one to embark on a mad dash to the finish line?  Here is the photo we used for our holiday card this year - it was taken in October or November during a hike at Jerusalem Mill.  I played around a little with PhotoShop to make the colors pop.  We love going hiking in the fall!  Tucker loves fall too since it means the weather is cooling down - you try hiking with lots of fur.

This is the other photo we used on our holiday card - Tucker will always be on our holiday card as long as he is a part of our family (hopefully for MANY years to come).  Tucker turned 5 on December 26th.  We spend lots of time wondering what he must have been like as a puppy.  I bet he was rambunctious and loved giving kisses.

Lastly, Happy New Year and here's hoping 2011 is a wonderful year for everyone.  I started the year out with a dreadful cold, but am looking forward to a new year.

It's all in the details...

Sorry, it's been a while since the last blog entry!

I have been doing a lot of online shopping lately and had to share how impressed I was with Piperlime!  Seriously, could the shipment box not be cuter?  Not only that, but the shoebox is wrapped in tissue paper, they include a shopping bag, and all of the paperwork is folded neatly in a cute little folder.

Oh, and these are the shoes I bought!

Some Fall Decor

Confession: I decorated for fall before summer was even over!  For once I was motivated.  Keep in mind my decor is still lacking - as in, this is just a start as we finally settle into our house several years later!

Sorry, the vase in the middle is a little off-center...I have also added another frame.  Candle sticks are from the PB Outlet in Lancaster.  Candles are from Target.  Vase is from Target.  Stones are from Target.  Berries are from Target (recent).  Brown twig stuff is from Michael's (recent).  Frame is from PB Outlet.

I love these candles...and not just because they smell so lovely.

And one photo of my pretty mums...plus look - my hydrangeas are still blooming!!!

Embrace Technology

Two recent instances that demonstrate my love of technology (in a limited capacity...I'm not a tech expert).

1. I just bought a Jawbone bluetooth due to Maryland's new hands-free law.  I admit to making fun of people that used blue tooth devices in the past...like when they're in stores and what not.  Well, now I have no room to talk.  This device is awesome...it's actually clearer for me to talk on it than on my phone.  Multi-tasking at home while taking phone calls is made easier too.  This thing is so tiny and light!

2. We went to a friend's party in the city this past Saturday night.  We had never been to their house and despite us both working in the city, we didn't know the exact location.  We parked in my work building and walked (with an 18 pack of beer and 2 bottles of wine)...we thought we were going in the right direction.  Nope, we went too far.  Enter my Droid's GPS.  It's nice to have a phone that includes free GPS since my old BlackBerry didn't.  I selected the Maps function which pinpointed exactly where we were (as GPS should!)...I was able to easily see where we had made a mistake.  The GPS kept up with us as we finally made our way to the party.  Yay technology!
